Using the bus to get to/from Tyros

The bus to Tyros leaves from Kifissou bus station in Eastern Athens. You need to take the bus to Leonidion as this stops at Tyros on the way.

To get to Kifissou bus station, take the Express bus number 93 from the airport. This leaves every half an hour and takes roughly an hour to get to the bus station. Buy your tickets (3 Euros) at the airport (kiosk just next to the bus stand). The number 051 bus goes to the station from near Omonia Square in the city centre - the number 051 (bus tickets obtainable from most kiosks). Note that on both of these buses you must validate your ticket in the ticket-punching machine as soon as you board.

Buses to Tyros/Leonidion leave at 07.45, 11.00 (except Sunday), 16.00 and 18.30 (daily in the summer - Fridays only in winter). This timetable was correct November 2008 but click here to see the latest schedule on the bus company website.

Tickets for Tyros cost 16.50 Euros (Nov 2008) and the location of the ticket office is shown on the diagram below.

The journey takes 3 - 4 hours and bus stops include the Corinth Canal, Argos, Astros and Aghios Andreas. the bus will usually let passengers off wherever they request so there may be multiple stops at some towns.

Note that the bus journey does not always include a stop for toilet breaks and although there may be a toilet on the bus it is often kept locked - so perhaps best not to drink too many coffees before your journey!

Kifissou bus station may appear confusing and somewhat chaotic to the visitor so the map below is to help you find your way around it. Good luck!
